I’m seeing a lot of forests on my travels this summer—and a lot of stressed trees, leaves already brown and dead in August, needles baked by heat wave after heat wave, and I know the danger of catastrophic fires that all portends. My own land was under evacuation order a couple of weeks ago—thank Goddess, and the firefighters!—we were safe. But as these dangers increase with the extremes of climate change, we all need more awareness of what we can do to mitigate the risk of fire. And if there’s one thing that makes me smolder, burn and fume—it’s idiotic politicians pontificating who have never themselves done a day of physical work in the woods nor cut a damn thing except the funding for those who actually know what they’re doing and risk their lives to save others. Hear me rant—and then when I calm down, I actually share the practical approaches we need to make our homes and lives safer in these challenging times.
