Here’s some of the beautiful altars from Dia de los Muertos last night in San Francisco. Such a wonderful night—the park full of altars and music, a grand procession of thousands of people marching to honor our loved ones who have died, so many great costumes and the streets flooded with the great diversity of people here in this city, of every heritage, age, gender, and background! Little dance parties and celebrations everywhere, schoolchildren performing, Aztec dancers honoring the elements, Santeria circles of drummers and dancers, altars on doorsteps and everyone united in that universal experience of loss, grief, and the determination to nonetheless celebrate life. This is what a multi-racial democracy actually looks like! This is the reality of a city filled with immigrants and the descendants of immigrants—who have brought more color, more vibrancy, more art, beauty and sheer delight into the lives of everyone in this region where this celebration has now been woven into the fabric of our culture. This—not mass deportations, not the hateful rhetoric and fearmongering of the MAGA extremists—is what makes America great!
Don’t forget to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket to protect our beautiful diversity!
How beautiful, Starhawk. Together with the majority of people here in Germany we are trembling and praying that Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States. There ist a candle light for this intention on our Samhain/ Todos los Santos altar this night.
Love and glory

So beautiful Starhawk! I needed the reminder of what a functional democracy might be like. 🥰
