So glad you're ok and that you had such lovely support when you needed it! I'm also happy you took this opportunity to speak up for the good men out there, because there are lots of them! I just completed a masters thesis on the current crisis in masculinity. Lifting up these good examples feels important.
Been there myself Sister Starhawk. Took some nasty as hell spills in my time. The emotional trauma was greater than the physical trauma. I’m lucky as hell to have my right leg. At 64 I feel reborn! Thank God/dess for cool doctors and nurses working their magick. I love all your books and podcasts and am so happy you’re bouncing back. Blessed be. Always your fan Robert Lackstein in Montreal Quebec Canada
So sorry for your ordeal and so glad that you got the care that you did. I appreciate the reminder of the value of fire department men. Indeed, I have a 16-year-old son and we are lucky to have neighbours who are firefighters/first responders. Good models all. One is a big strong fellow and the other a less big but equally strong woman.
As a Canadian i know I can speak for many of us who are bewildered by US medical care. I've benefitted from both emergency care and surgical care and i am always deeply moved by the dignity of not having to make financial decisions when such care is needed. I can't imagine how demoralizing it must be to have to do so. Wishing you good healing and good visiting.
Beautiful Starhawk! i'm so glad that story ended well. Wonderful writing, as usual. i see your excited little girl, running to the calling drum then unexpectedly flying through the air...what a shock. Yet still you reflect, find the words and share your wisdom and insight with us. Thank you, recover well and have the best time with your family xxxx
I'm so glad you're healing well and I appreciate your call out to burly strong, gentle, kind, men. I'd like to think that both Noah and I fit that bill, tho, I'm not quite as strong as I used to be.
Starhawk blessed be that you are not broken! A humerus is a delicate thing, trust me! So wonderful. Your right continues to be amazing, keeps me with you, delightful and inspiring. Loving you so much! Thank you for you.
Oh I'm so glad you're ok! Thank you for your wonderful story with its marvelous image of the crowd of gentle, burly, capable men who were such a force for good! Made me remember a cool song by Eileen McGann called "Here's to the Men" Maybe you've heard it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIY6p4aWhDc
Yikes! So glad you're OK. & were treated so well. My nephew's also a burly, gentle EMT. Walking up 28 steps could have caused leg muscle fatigue, making it easier to trip. Brow ridge is part of our skull; your brain got a shake when it hit the drum. They probably gave you a discharge sheet of instructions, but... physical or even mental "strain" or lots of screen time probably not a great idea for a while longer.
Ow! happy to hear it's (essentially) over and (mostly) feeling okay. You are needed - your drumming, your teaching, your writing...your presence. Yup, a lot of good strong male helpers out there. I'm old and feeble and able to conjure up (with $) a series of pleasant strong men to Do Stuff (change lightbulbs, build decks) that I used to do myself (and several strong helpful women too). Leaving me free to be Wise Old Woman dispensing Words of Wisdom, not unlike your not-quite-as-old self...except I nap all the time instead.

I really appreciated this article. Yes, not evey man is toxic, and i love the idea of orienting boys to these role models.
O sweetie! I did that a year ago. Cut my head, needed the EMT to haul me off the floor. So very glad you’re recovering.
My nephew is a firefighter paramedic. He is wonderful young man. I bless all first responders each night before sleep.

So glad you came through that nightmare! So thankful for our emergency responders!!!
Thank you for pointing out the strong helpful males out there.
Enjoy the rest of your visit with your family.
I love your new chant. I will share at No Kings Day.
Bless your...and their....hearts!!
This personal sharing was just what I needed today to remember how blessed I am to be in the place I am at this moment. Thank you!

So glad you are well! I have had that same experience of paramedics.
