In this episode, I talk about the importance of building real relationships, treating people with respect, and cultivating a culture of appreciation within movements. I also touch on celebrating the small victories within our lives and movements, and the power of storytelling in connecting our lived and ancestral experiences to foster a sense of community. There are practical and emotional support measures we can take to create nurturing environments in activist and movement spaces.
Just listened to your podcast. As always, so inspiring. I think about values a lot. Working as a therapist, it’s one of the first things I ask people about. I have discovered we often don’t know what our real values are and their lies much of our internal conflict.
Your suggestions for what we can do are spot on. If we can’t build connections, enjoy one another, and find some joy in our lives and our work, then I think burnout is inevitable. Something I’ve always appreciated about you is your sense of humor, often self deprecating, which I think invites connection and a willingness to be vulnerable and open.
Love to you, Starhawk. From San another gray haired old hippie.
